1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I know I've always said that I hated my job, but 2009 marks the year that I really grew an ugly attitude for it. And, yes, a lot of it was due to things going on, the changes, the loss of those I loved and cared about... but a lot was due to me finally realizing that if I want to be happy, I have to find my own happiness, I can't depend on others, because they'll only let me down. Wow... My answers get more upbeat, I promise! :D
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Ha! My 2009 resolution was to work out more - which, as anyone can see, I did not do. I think my resolution for 2010 is something that might be harder... it's to find something that truly makes me happy.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes!! My dear friend, Paula gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in October, Katelyn!! She the most precious thing!! ♥ Several close friends are pregnant and due around March, April as well so this time next year I'll have more to say! :)
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully this year, no. Thank GOODNESS!!!
5. What countries did you visit?
I did go to Mexico with the RTS cruise this past year. But I might've spent all of two and a half hours there...
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009
Kind of in keeping with my resolution above, I'd like to be happier in 2010.
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 23rd - attending dear my friend Satoshi's wedding was truly one of the most moving memories I have of the year! It was SUCH a touching and beautiful ceremony!!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Just making it through the year at my job without having gone insane is my greatest achievement!
9. What was your biggest failure?
Probably turning in to the bitter, disgruntled individual that I've become... :P Work is totally turning me into someone I can't stand. :P
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Thankfully, no, nothing serious, at least.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My iPhone, clearly! I can't put the damn thing down. It's been my lifesaver on my short weekend trips - and has eliminated my need to carry my heavy laptop,... I can keep up with FB and Twitter via my phone. :) Not only that, but it's made my email checking a bit more obssessive (which is probably not a good thing...)
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I'm not going to mention names, but a dear co-worker of mine who was let go who showed the ultimate class and great attitude througout her ordeal. She is truly someone I would want working for my company.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
A few people in both my work and personal lives have shown themselves to be huge disappointments... I don't use the word hate, but "dislike" and "not trust" play a huge part of my 2009.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Aside from the mortgage and bills, theatre tickets, theatre tickets, and did I mention? THEATRE TICKETS!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Yeah... going to NYC in April - getting to see Kevin in 1776! AMAZING that it coincided with my already planned trip! :) Also, my NYC trip in September and finding out that Chad and Montego had been retained for the broadway cast of MEMPHIS. I actually tweeted a "Hell, yes!" from outside my meeting when the news broke on the theatre sites. I was VERY excited to see Michael's solo concert at Upright... in fact, as a theatrical event, it was probably my favorite of the year! Seeing him after the show and getting a sweet hug from him was amazing as well. :)
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
"Run Away With Me" - my favorite song - from finding Michael's incredible rendition on YouTube to hearing David Burnham sing it LIVE at his solo concert, this was the year that I fell in love with this beautiful song.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Hard to answer... probably not happier, though.
thinner or fatter? Yeah, fatter. MUCH. Fatter. :P Need to remedy that.
richer or poorer? About the same, I think. Though 2010 is going to be a kick in the pants for me financially.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Realistically, nothing. I would love to say, "See more theatre," but the amount that I was away from home was pushing the good will of hubby, as it was.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Agonizing and stressing over work...
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Spent the morning at the in-laws (see Cooper's fuzzy recap) and then took Cooper to see the neurotic fuzzy dog at my Mom's house in the evening. My Mom loved the digital picture frame (with accompanying memory stick of all the photos I had on all my computers) that we got her.... Except that she feels that she has to sit and watch it. I told her she can just let it play in the back while she's working on her desk or something, but she feels she has to "watch" it. :) :D
21. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
Each year, Mark & I take my Mom to my in-law's house for their annual New Year's Eve party. This year I have to work until 6pm... so it won't be quite the same. :P
22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I fell in love back in 1996 and never fell out of it. :)
23. How many one-night stands?
I don't like answering this question every year... None!
24. What was your favorite TV program?
This year it was "Kings," clearly! Not only was it written well, and fascinating to watch, but GOOD LORD... Michael Arden and Sebastian Stan together? How could I NOT love that? ;) I think the picture below says it all...
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
As I've said above, I don't like to use the word "hate," but to answer the question quite simply... Yes.
26. What was the best book you read?
Several really good books come to mind this year. With eReader on my iPhone, I've been doing A LOT more reading than I ever have in the past. The two books that I adored this year (be warned they are all romance books of the AHEM... m/m variety) were "The Curtis Reincarnation" - loved the humor and the characterizations, it was very cute and "A Family Affair" - such an interesting family study with characters so well drawn I felt like I was a part of the family by the time the book ended.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Michael Arden, most definitely!! Not only his theatrical work, but his songwriting... what an amazing talent! And I've always adored David Burnham, but 2009 was the year I discovered his incredible cabaret talents!! LOVED his show at Ramsey's!! :) Also, Matt Cusson was another amazing discovery for me this year.... So. Much. Talent. (We're acting weird with him in the photo below) :) And of course, this wouldn't be me if I didn't mention MEMPHIS and of course, Chad and Montego. :)
28. What did you want and get?
Incredible theatre experiences!!
29. What did you want and not get?
Ah! I never ask for much... just the health of my family and maybe some great theatre experiences... so I couldn't be more thankful for the year. :) Honestly.
30. What was your favorite film this year?
Two VERY different, but equally lovely movies - "Universal Signs" - which I got to see for the very first time at a film festival in LA in August. GORGEOUS, gorgeous movie, beautifully shot, wonderfully acted (by my dear friend Anthony Natale), just incredible in every way! And also "Every Little Step" - I saw it in Chelsea when I was in NYC in April and I cried like a baby! Just got the DVD a couple of months ago and watched it on the plane ride to LA and cried my eyes out all over again... on the damn plane! :P
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I celebrated my last birthday in Maui with Mark at the Grand Wailea Resort. We ate dinner at the Kincha Japanese food buffet, and walked around the hotel grounds after dinner... VERY nice!
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I miss my work family! I wish that we didn't have to lose so many good people! :(
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
I was all about comfort this year.
34. What kept you sane?
Definitely my hubby & fuzzy baby and of course, traveling to LA and NYC to see wonderful theatre has certainly kept me sane throughout the year as well.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Wow. Okay,... started out the year a huge admirer of Van's talent. Having just come out of the whole DDR encounter and having really enjoyed our theatre conversations after the show, I was pretty much convinved that he was the nicest, most down to earth person around. :) Then, after seeing PIPPIN in February, I discovered Michael's incredible talent... That lasted clear through the end of the year - seeing him in KINGS, and his solo cabaret at Upright, and his AMAZING guest appearance on "The Closer..." Of course September and my NYC trip brought back an admiration that I had (which started almost 8 years ago!) for Chad Kimball. Seeing him in MEMPHIS and finally getting the opportunity to meet him and to see what a kind, sweet, and humble man he is only made my admiration for him and his talent grow. Finally, this year would not be complete without mentioning David Burnham. Always adored him... since seeing him as Hinckley in "Assassins" with Kevin 5 years ago... but really love what a kind and personable guy he is!
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Marriage Equality, the new hate crime legislation.
37. Whom did you miss?
My Dad and Sydney. :( ALWAYS!
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Met so many great folks this year, I can't even tell you! But among my favorites, was FINALLY getting to meet thunder_pants in person after nearly 8 years of knowing her online. That was extremely wonderful!! Also meeting chelseafrew in NYC in September was extremely wonderful as well! As far as celebrity type people are concerned... meeting Chad was probably the celebrity highlight of my year. How utterly sweet and humble could one man be?
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
No one can make my life happy, I'm solely responsible for that. Depending on others for that only leads to disappointment. :P
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"And don't you see I want my life to be; Something more than long...." & "I've got to be where my spirit can run free..." Both from PIPPIN, but both sum up my year pretty well.
Remember those past 6 years I talked about? Here's how things were in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and finally 2008. Have a wonderful New Year, Everyone!! :)
ETA: Good Lord!! I just went back to read my 2003 answers and found this! "And Julie Jackson gave birth in May to the cutest little boy!" -- OH. MY. GOD. Beckett! I just saw pictures of him in November when I saw Julie... He's SO grown up - how could his birth have even been in my LJ? Damn, I'm old.
