Cooper...
So, we just got home from our first late night emergency vet visit. :P Cooper was doing a lot of puking all evening (I think he must've puked 7 or 8 times throughout the course of the night...) and with visions of Sydney and her liver disease stuck in our heads... we didn't want to take any chances. AND the fact that I noticed this evening that Cooper had eaten the large nose off his toy hedgehog and we weren't able to locate it anywhere made us worry that he had some kind of obstruction...

He puked several times, wouldn't eat or drink water after that and whined a lot. So, not wanting to take any chances, we took him in.

Of course, as soon as we made a move to leave the house, Cooper gained some sort of energy and began getting excited about the car ride and started wagging his tail and jumping for his leash... Which confused us since he had just been walking around puking, whining, and looking unhappy just minutes before. :P

Our vet's office,... to their credit, are SUCH wonderful people. They were SO nice to Cooper and felt for obstructions in his throat, stomach, and lower intestines. They said they wouldn't be able to tell anything conclusively without x-rays, but the fact that Cooper didn't seem to be in pain during the examination was a good sign. They suggested an injection of fluids, and an anti-nausea shot (since I noted that Cooper would not stop licking his lips...)

They told us not to give him water or food for 6 hours and to monitor him. If he's still puking we should bring him back tomorrow. They also put him on a bland food diet... which we are all too familiar with because of Sydney and then sent us on our way.

I'm glad we went in... after the ordeal that we went through with Sydney and having her so sick all the time, when Cooper began puking AND not stopping, I started getting some pretty bad flashbacks. Thank goodness that he seems to be resting now and, for the most part seems to be doing okay. Mark thinks I worry too much, but I think after what we went through with Sydney, we're both a bit more paranoid, even if Mark won't admit to it... :P

Thankfully it wasn't something that immediately caused the vet concern. We'll see how he's doing tomorrow. I'm hoping that it was just something he ate that irritated his stomach and not a blockage anywhere, though we still haven't found that hedgehog's nose... :P If you could spare some good thoughts for Cooper, it would be much appreciated. I'd love to wake up tomorrow and find he's back to his old fuzzy (and ill behaved) ;) self.

Thanks so much for your comment! Cooper did seem a bit out of sorts this morning, but we fed him his special food and we'll see how he does. HUGS!
