The trip was incredible and the nicest part was getting to see all my friends - Bobbie, Brooke and their family at the concert, Pat & Kevin, Terry & Jim for breakfast on Sunday, and Marina (who happened to be at the pool at the Sportsmen's Lodge when I went to see Pat) :). I'm slowly making my way through all of your entries that I've missed, but I wanted to re-cap some of the highlights of my trip before I take a much needed nap. :P
Kevin's Concert With the Philharmonic!
Oh my gosh..it was so incredible! It's been so long since I've heard Kevin sing and I have to say - he could sing the phone book and it'd be incredible! The entire concert was wonderful, but I think the highlight was getting to finally hear him sing "Do You Hear The People Sing?" (live)... It was... heart-stopping.
Kevin's beautiful singing aside, one of the nicest parts of the concert (besides spending time with Bobbie and her family) :) was getting to see Kevin and his family in a casual setting. Luckily the format of the evening allowed the soloists to mingle and eat before the concert with their family and guests and so I got to see Kevin a bit before the actual show. He and I talked about "Assassins" (which he's doing in September - woo hoo!) and a few more upcoming awesome projects that I can't disclose right now... :(
It was wonderful seeing his family - who are all such dears! Julie Ann came up and gave me a huge hug and said, "So nice to see you!" Which was really sweet! She had dyed her hair and gotten it cut since the last time I saw her and she looked wonderful! "I love your hair!" I told her - and she made a face and self consciously touched her bangs and said, "They had to change it for the show." She is just too sweet. She even gave me some candles for our table - insisting that I take a few in case Bobbie forgot to bring some. How sweet is she?
I also had the pleasure of being introduced to all of Kevin's brothers....including Dave - who I'd never met before. Kevin was shocked when he heard this. "I never introduced you to Dave before?" I wanted to say that he never even introduced me to Julie Ann before (I had to approach her myself at the Robbys), but I didn't ;). And I was nice and cordial to Dave and even smiled when he started talking about his site for Julie Ann.
I loved meeting Kevin's two other brothers, Tom & Mark. They were friendly, down to earth and seemed so supportive of Kevin's career. :) They also looked almost exactly like him - if Kevin decided to grow facial hair, he'd be the spitting image of both Tom and Mark. I was able to get a group photo of all of them,.... don't they look just like Kevin?
Also got to speak with Kim Huber (Kevin's co-soloist for the evening) who I had met before at "Spitfire Grill". She is such a sweetheart and actually remembered me. I give her a lot of credit for remembering since "Spitfire" was last November. I also give her husband Roger a lot of credit for acting like he remembered me from "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown". :P It wasn't until I mentioned Julie Jackson's name did he truly remember meeting me. :D
The entire concert was wonderful, but getting to see Bobbie and her family and meeting Kevin's brothers and seeing what truly warm hearted people the Earley's are made the concert a wonderful night to remember. :)
I saw two other shows while I was in LA - "Sneaux!" at the Matrix theatre and "Toys In The Attic" at the Colony. While I enjoyed (I don't know if enjoyed was the right word since it was so depressing...) "Toys In The Attic" - I didn't care for "Sneaux!" at all - I think some of the cast is incredibly talented (like the female lead who played Sneaux/Amy), but the humor wasn't one that I really appreciated and it bordered on really bad taste at times. It probably just wasn't my type of show. :( "Toys In the Attic", on the other hand was exquisitely acted and directed... but so depressing that, although I liked the show - I found my hands still shaking as I was driving back to the hotel... It was an interesting weekend of shows, to say the least.
In any case, I'm so glad to be home and so glad that I got to spend time with all of my friends this weekend! I rarely get to see my East coast friends (Pat & Kevin, Terry & Jim), so that was a real treat and it totally made my weekend! Hope you all are having a nice start to your week! :)
