My Year End Non-Theatre Meme (and a HUGE thanks to all of you!!)

... I've been doing THE SAME year end meme for the past 7 years here in this LJ. It seemed almost wrong NOT to do it this year... so here it is... :P I think I'm getting this in just under the wire, here... It's about an hour or so before midnight... talk about procrastinating! :P

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
I think I've finally found a healthy balance between my work life and my personal life (which was a resolution in 2006... maybe?)

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
My 2010 resolution was to find something that really makes me happy... I guess, if we're talking about happiness career-wise, then no... I didn't. I did, however, learn to accept my situation and make the most of it. And resolutions for 2011? Nah,... I think I'll pass.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes!! Dear God. EVERYONE did! Let's see... Helen, Lorrie, smittenbyu, thunder_pants, karmastyx, underworldfairy, sb186, my friend Lance's wife, gosh... too many to name, really. 2010 was certainly a year for babies. And many of my friends are pregnant now and will give birth soon...

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not close to me, but dear friends have lost loved ones this year... :( ♥

5. What countries did you visit?
No out-of-the-country traveling this year, maybe next...

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More appreciation for the small, lovely moments in life that sometimes pass by without notice.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Ah, sounds really silly, but for a theatre lover like myself,... April 17th - the very first time I ever saw Douglas Hodge's performance in La Cage. It truly was a revelation. Just remarkable.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finally finding an equilibrium at work.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being home enough in the past year to spend more time with Mark & Cooper.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Thankfully, no.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
That first ticket to La Cage - I almost didn't because I was supposed to attend a soap event instead, but something told me to buy it... and I'm SOOOO thankful I did!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
All of you wonderful people on here, FB, & Twitter who have kept me sane all year and who have put up with my theatre posts and rants. I love you all. :)

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Certain people I work with (not directly, I LOVE the folks in my direct office) have shown themselves to be HUGE disappointments... Certain people in my personal life have also shown themselves to be disappointments as well...

14. Where did most of your money go?
Lets just say the producers of both La Cage and MEMPHIS are making a fortune off of me alone... ;) Not to mention the good folks over at Delta & Hawaiian airlines. ;)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Probably going to NYC in April, and seeing Douglas Hodge sing "I Am What I Am" for the very first time. His WHOLE performance, really and then briefly meeting him at the stage door on April 27th. It was also VERY exciting meeting him a second time after a performance of La Cage I saw in October... I was EXTREMELY excited to meet Jason Tam for the first time in NYC in October and it was WONDERFUL to see him later again in Hawaii at the screening of "Every Little Step" a few weeks ago. :)

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Of course, "I Am What I Am" from La Cage

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Probably the same.
thinner or fatter? Yeah, fatter. MUCH. Fatter. :P Need to fix that. Soon.
richer or poorer? Poorer, I think. Our pay structure change this past year was a kick in the ass financially.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Spend time at home with Mark & Cooper.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Agonizing and stressing over work...

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Spent the morning at the in-laws (see Cooper's fuzzy recap) and then took Cooper to my Mom's house in the evening. My Mom loved the photo book that we made for her.... Except she kept looking through the bag saying, "Where's my memory card for my picture frame of photos this year?" :) I guess we'll have to drop that off to her on New Year's day. :D

21. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
Each year, Mark & I take my Mom to my in-law's house for their annual New Year's Eve party. Thankfully even though I worked today, we got off at 1pm, so I was able to make it there at a reasonable time (unlike last year...)

22. Did you fall in love in 2010?
I fell in love back in 1996 and never fell out of it. :)

23. How many one-night stands?
I think I'm going to change this question next year. I hate it...

24. What was your favorite TV program?
I honestly didn't watch TV at all this year. I did watch OLTL for a few months that Jason was still on the show. Other than that, the Tonys, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, my TV was never on. :P

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
It's less of a hate and more of a "don't understand AT ALL"... And umm... not specific people, per se, but people in general, maybe? (I'm turning into my hubby!!)

26. What was the best book you read?
Nothing that really caught my attention this year, though I did read a great deal on my iPhone.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Douglas Hodge. Doug Hodge. Both. They are the same person, but one is his actor, musical theatre moniker, and the other is his singer / songwriter name. Clearly I love both.

28. What did you want and get?
Incredible theatre experiences!!

29. What did you want and not get?
Ah! I never ask for much... just the health of my family and maybe some great theatre experiences... so I couldn't be more thankful for the year. :) Honestly.

30. What was your favorite film this year?
The amazing documentary "See What I'm Saying" which follows the lives and careers of 4 prominent deaf performers; TL Forsberg, CJ Jones, Bob Hiltermann, and Robert DeMayo. Saw a screening of it in NYC in April and I loved it. I didn't realize some of the struggles that they've all had. Amazing documentary.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I celebrated my last birthday at Mini-Garden with Mark, eating absolutely wonderful mock meat Chinese food!!! SOOO YUMMY!

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Honestly, I feel so blessed. This year was wonderful and I couldn't ask for more.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Errr. Comfort... it's all about comfort.

34. What kept you sane?
Definitely Mark & Cooper and of course, traveling to LA and NYC to see wonderful theatre has certainly kept me sane throughout the year as well. As well as all of you.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Gee... I sound like a broken record with my answers... but definitely DOUGLAS HODGE. His passion for his craft, his wonderful political views, his sincerity, and his shy and modest sense of humor really make him one of the most attractive celebrities I can think of. I think he's brilliant, extraordinarily talented, and just the sweetest, most unassuming man. Could not admire the man more.

Jason Tam - he has to be the next most talented (he can act circles around anyone, dance ridiculously well, and sing beautifully... there is absolutely nothing this triple threat can't do!) AND he is the warmest, most personable person ever - besides which, he is hysterically funny, very modest, and just a a really great guy. ADORE him!!

Brian d'Arcy James - by reading his tweets, I fear that we both have similar senses of humor. I find his writing hysterical, I find his acting INCREDIBLY moving, and having met him briefly several times, he is really a nice (genuinely nice) guy.

Thomas Sadoski & Santino Fontana - both are extraordinarily talented and both seem like nice individuals. Met Thomas briefly after his show at BAM and he was a dear, just wonderful.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Marriage Equality.

37. Whom did you miss?
My Dad and Sydney. :( ALWAYS!

38. Who was the best new person you met?
This year specifically, it would have to be anisalee who I met in NYC in Sept. We had a great time and pretty much set a tradition of seeing great drag musicals together. It's "Priscilla" next! :D

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
I think I've really learned to enjoy the little moments in life without worrying excessively about the outcome... The best moments in life are really made up of the little wonderful moments each day.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"So hold this moment fast, and live and love as hard as you know how. And make this moment last..." - Of course, from La Cage, but it really is true of this year...

Remember those past 7 years I talked about? Here's how things were in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 2008 and finally 2009

Have a wonderful New Year, and a blessed 2011, Everyone!! :)
