Sneaking this post in from work (UGH)
Both Mark & Sydney are probably still asleep since neither of them has to worry about being at work today (as if Syndey ever has to worry about that). :P I'm not sure if it was because my Christmas this year was more stressful and exhausting than an actual work day, but I was completely wasted when I got up this morning! And normally working the day after a holiday isn't too bad, but this is our long 11 hr day. I hope I can make it through the whole day without falling asleep. :P

Christmas Day was actually really nice for us. We started off the day at my in-laws for an early morning breakfast. Mark's aunt and uncle were visiting from California so it was really nice to spend some time with them too. Mark's Mom is doing fine, she's currently going through radiation and will know soon if chemo is necessary. Hopefully it won't be. We got a lot of really nice things from them including gift certificates to restaurants, and money to add to our NYC trip fund. :) His whole family really enjoyed the GCs that we got them for Sansei Restaurant... We try to give them GCs like that each year so they can get together during the year and enjoy a dinner on us somewhere really nice.

Afterward we went to my Mom's house to help her prepare Christmas dinner. My Mom looked great and in fact looked much better than we'd seen her in a while. The dinner was incredible - but so filling! (My Mom's a really great cook!) And we left with so many leftovers that we'll be eating it for at least a week! My Mom loved the DVD player that we got for her, but she was so worried that she wouldn't be able to learn how to use it (as you can see my Mom and technology really don't get along!) We got a lot of great things from her and more money to add to our NYC trip fund (which seemed to be the popular gift choice this year) :)

The rest of the evening was spent setting up her DVD player, playing with her hyper and neurotic dog, Yuki, and watching the University of Hawaii football team beat Houston in triple overtime!! Woo hoo! It was so exciting that even Mark was getting into the game (and he usually hates football!) I took a lot of pictures and video with our new video camera that we got at that CompUSA sale. :) We had a wonderful time and all the incidents of the previous night made me even more thankful that I have my Mom in life - I can't say enough how thankful I am that nothing happened to her!

I also came home to some really nice emails and greetings, including a holiday greeting from Julie Ann and a message board greeting from Julie Jackson. :) I haven't heard from Kevin in a while, and I don't really expect to for a while. I know he's been busy since he arrived in NYC and probably doesn't even have internet access yet. Besides he's been doing 8 shows a week and "Millie" has matinee and evening shows for the next two days to make up for being dark on Christmas Eve.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and got to spend time with your family and loved ones. Really, that's been the best part of my holidays this year - just having them (and you all) in my life. *HUGS*

That's cute about your mom & the DVD player. My folks are techno-lost too. For their anniversary I sent them a weather station they've been lusting after. Part of it gets hooked up outside. Unfortunately they cannot figure it out & are waiting for my next trip to set it up for them. I thought of you and saying, hey can you pop by their house & set it up? :D

Hope I don't wait 29 more years before I get back to Hawaii.

Must be harder for you with your parents since you have to do all of your explaining by telephone. I think if I had to explain how to install or use some technical gadget to my Mom over the phone we'd get so frustrated with each other we'd give up. :P

And I'm sure you'll be back in Hawaii soon enough, but if you want Mark & I to swing by there to install it, just give me a holler. They must only live down the street from us anyway. ;)

Glad to hear that your Christmas was so nice. I hope that your 11 hour day goes OK at work. Whew... why 11 hours today?

My mom and technology don't get along either. She is very reluctant to get new electronics and such. But she knows she can get help from Joe and me when needed. Glad you r mom loved her DVD player.

On Fridays we have our dreaded 11 hour days when the bank is open until 6pm. We usually end up spending much more than 11 hours there on a Friday, but yesterday, the moment the clock struck 6pm, my co-worker and I were OUT of there! :)

My Mom is the same way. I think if she had her choice, she'd stick to her VCR (it a good thing we got away from the old Betamax she used to own!) :D and no computer. :)
ajayne on December 27th, 2003 08:15 pm (UTC)
Oh, wow, we were just discussing those old Betamax players on Christmas Eve at my aunt's house. When my mom bought our first one when I was a kid, it was a VHS one... HUGE thing, top loading with a really short remote control cord so you had to sit on the floor in the middle of the room in order to use the remote! We still thought it was SOOOOO cool!

Wow... long days on Fridays. At least it is only once a week. I can't blame you for being outta there right at 6pm though.

I had one of those top-loading ones too! :D And I remember those remote controls too! :) That's too funny!

We had that VCR for a long, long time too. It was a good one and IMPOSSIBLE to program. My mom says I was the only one who could program it.

It sounds like your Christmas went well. :) I'm glad. I agree that the best gift is to be w/people you love. :)

Sorry about the 11 hour work day.
Sherishutterbug93 on December 27th, 2003 10:08 am (UTC)
Thanks, Carrie. :) And work wasn't too bad, actually. At least I got to go to the mall and I didn't have to look for parking! :)

I'm glad that you had a nice Christmas Day. My dad and technology get along very well - in contrast to me he never reads the operating manual. :) It's very good to hear that your and Mark's Mom are doing fine. I hope your day at work was not so strenuous. (as if Syndey ever has to worry about that). :P Every morning when I put on clothes to go to work Lauser goes back to bed until I'm ready. Sometimes, the thought to be a dog is not the worst then. :D *Hugs*
Sherishutterbug93 on December 27th, 2003 10:13 am (UTC)
Haha! Reading the instruction manual is something that Mark constantly teases me about because I NEVER do and he LOVES to do! :) I just like to get to my gadget and try it out and he sits there and reads through the manual (which I think is great, but I'm not patient enough for).

And yesterday it would have been lovely to have been Sydney! :) Lounging around the house playing with all of her new toys, sleeping all day - what a nice life that must be! ;) Please take care and big *hugs* to you and Lauser. :)

It has always seemed to me that Christmas should be more than one
day! In Canada the day after Christmas is also a legal Holiday, it is called Boxing Day, I wish the U.S. would adopt that holiday also.
I always hating going to work the day after Christmas. Dave had to
work the day after Christmas, I think I slept until about 11:30 (shame on lazy me!) I was glad to read that everything is OK with
Sydney Dog too! My parents bought themselves a new combo DVD/VCR
for Christmas, but it is not connected. Dave was going to connect
it for them, but with everything going on, he forgot. Well, at
least they are trying...... Have a great holiday!

Work was actually okay. :) I work across the street from our big mall so I got to go shopping on my lunch and I didn't need to to fight for parking. :) And we're VERY thankful that Sydney's doing well - in fact by looking at her, you can hardly tell that she was ever sick! :) And speaking of being sick, I read that you haven't been feeling too well lately. :( Please take care and I hope you feel better soon!

You work an 11 hour day? *thud*
