My first day of work & other things...
I wanted to thank you all for the good luck wishes for my first day of work yesterday. :) It must've worked since (all in all) it was a pretty good day. I wasn't used to the short drive in with no traffic and got to the branch about 45 minutes early. :P I saw and spoke with a lot of my friends who I used to work with downstairs in the branch and it was nice to catch up with them on the three years that I'd been gone - so many babies were born since then!

The work day itself went pretty fast. The work was tedious, but I enjoyed it. The hard part came when I had to start calling reps out in the field for information. They were reluctant to tell me anything, thinking that I still worked at my other branch and wondered why I was inquiring about their clients. So my co-worker decided to send out a mass email to all the reps and associates to welcome me to the back office. That was fine...until I got the mass of emails and phone calls asking, "WHAT HAPPENED?" Most salespeople don't understand the allure of an admin job and couldn't understand why I chose to move back there. :P

Other than that, I think I'm going to have to get used to the back office life and not having as much freedom as I used to. At my old branch, I was in charge of the operations and got to decide lunch schedules, duties, vacations, etc. It was just interesting yesterday when my boss told me at 11:30am, "I'm sending you to lunch." :) Not that I'm complaining at all, it was just something I'm going to have to get used to. :)

Other things: The rain yesterday was horrendous! It was so bad that it flooded several streets on the only road to my house and it took me almost 2 hours from the time I exited the freeway to get back home. :P Luckily the rain has stopped, but the air is so humid today that it feels like another storm is on its way. :P

And lastly, Mark & I spent the day at Waikele (where there are a lot of factory outlets) since I needed a new suitcase. I found one that I really liked at a really great price so I think I'm finally set for my NYC trip. :) I just hope that Kevin's feeling better and can return to the stage so that I won't have to fly all the way there just to see his understudy. ;)

Hope you're all having a nice weekend. :)

Glad to hear you had a nice day at your new job... and that you were able to catch up on people you hadn't seen in a while.

I know exactly what you mean about the only road to your house being flooded... here in the city I live in, there is one road in and out... and whenever there is a problem, everyone is stuck either trying to leave or trying to return. It is just awful.

Isn't it horrible? I keep hoping they build another road that leads out of our area! Not only is traffic really bad in the mornings and after work, but it's really dangerous if an emergency arises. :P

Hope you're having a nice weekend. :)

Yeah, the weekend is nice, thanks! I hope yours is going well too... even though it is almost over now.

Glad you had a good day and I hope the reps decide to be a bit more forthcoming in what they'll tell you. Must have been nice to see all the people you haven't seen for a few years.

Thanks, Carrie. I don't think the reps will be a problem, now that they know I'm asking for information in a different capacity. I think they were just concerned that I may have been trying to steal clients for my old boss by asking detailed questions about their clients. (Which I'd NEVER even think of doing) :P And it was nice to see the people I hadn't seen in years - their children are all so big now. :)

I'm glad the first day went well. I knew it would. :)

Thanks, Carrie. :) Hopefully this move was the right one for me... I'm still not sure yet. :P

Glad to hear that you had a good first day at your new work. :) That with the rain sounds terrible. I hope that the rain will not come back and that your house is standing at a safe place! *Hugs*

Thanks, Sabine! :) And the rain was awful! :P It's actually stopped today and we woke up to cooler, less humid weather. The sky looks a little more clear so hopefully that's a good sign that all the rain has left us for now. :) Big *HUGS* to you and Lauser. :)

Glad to hear your first day went well. The shorter drive sounds sooo
much better! Happy 2004

The drive is so much better now! I think I cut off an hours worth of commute! ;) Hope you and your family have a nice 2004 too! :)

Your first day at the new branch reminds me when I was working for a company in Ohio and transfered to another warehouse on the opposite side of town. I was performing basically the same job at the other warehouse, but I confused a lot of trucking companies when I would call them and offer them freight. They would say, "I thought you worked for the Kal Kan warehouse...but now you're offering me M&M/Mars freight?"

I hope the rain has subsided! We've had rain, sleet, freezing rain, and snow all within the past 24 hours!!

I think that's exactly what was happening! :) The reps would pause in an awkward moment of silence before they answered me - probably thinking I was trying to steal their client! Hopefully they all know that I'm working for all of them now and not just my old boss. :)

The rain has thankfully ended! Yay! And I guess I shouldn't complain since it sounds like you guys had so much worse! Please take care! :)
