A really nice & bad day all rolled into one. :P
I'll start off with the bad since it was one of the first things that started off my morning. :P

Apparently my Acura nightmares are not over. :( I got a call from my insurance company and they told me the damages for the girl's car came out to $685.92 (a FAR cry from the $1,053.00 she quoted me before the insurance company got involved!) :P But the lady from the insurance company went on to say that the girl is now claiming personal injury. . . *STUNNED* . . . I barely tapped her bumper - how could she have gotten injured? Her car has an air bag and the accident was so mild that it didn't even deploy... :( I can't believe how some people try to get everything they can out of a situation at someone else's expense! :( This is the horror story that will never end for me! :(

After the call this morning, I was feeling so depressed that I ate two donuts. :( (I'm an emotional eater). :P Which, it turns out, was a bad idea since there was a surprise awaiting me at lunch. Yesterday one of my co-workers kept talking about how much she was craving Hawaiian food and then we got into a huge discussion about it, what we all liked, didn't like, etc. Not too odd...

Then today, out of the blue, my boss comes back from "an outside appointment" with tons of bags, etc. I was totally shocked to find out that all the food and whispering earlier was for me - for my birthday last week! :) They somehow found out that my birthday was last week (I don't know how - I don't tell anyone when it is!) and planned to buy Hawaiian plates for lunch and a cake to celebrate. It was SO thoughtful of them! I was so touched that they would do something so sweet for me since I've only been working there for a month. After the absolutely horrendous morning that I had, it was such a needed boost. They're just terrific! :)

What NERVE Acura Girl has claiming an injury! Let me at her! I will show her an injury alright! (Heehee... actually I am as non-violent as people can be!) So what is the insurance company (yours) going to do about this? I hope they investigate.

How sweet of your co-workers to have a nice little party for you. =)

Haha! Actually your response to my post made my morning! :) The insurance company told me that they'd monitor her medical bills - whatever that means. :P I just want this thing to be over... :(

And my co-workers are such dears! I was totally surprised with the little lunch they had planned - I had no idea! :)
ajayne on February 8th, 2004 07:04 pm (UTC)
Glad that your insurance company is going to monitor her medical bills. Also glad that my response made your morning. =)

What? That girl is doing what? That is EVIL! Is there anyway to like really find out if she's lying? She better get busted. ;-)

Awwwwwwwww, Hawaiian food! Hehehe, now you're talking about food. Now, I'm hungry. *L* I'm glad your day has gotten better.
Sherishutterbug93 on February 8th, 2004 09:21 am (UTC)
I have no idea what the insurance company does in situations like this. :( They told me they'd monitor it (whatever that means). I just hope this thing ends soon! :(

And the food that they bought was so good! After my co-worker was mentioning Hawaiian food the day on Thursday, I started to crave it so it was perfect. They're so sweet!
Carriecarrieh on February 7th, 2004 12:26 am (UTC)
Well, that proves she's only after as much money as possible. The insurance company must come across this thing time and time again so they're bound to know how best to deal with it.

How nice about the party.
Sherishutterbug93 on February 8th, 2004 09:23 am (UTC)
I'm sure you're right - the insurance company must see this kind of thing a lot. It just un-nerved me because I'd never run across anyone like this before. :( I guess I'm naive in thinking that people are generally good. :P

And the party was such a surprise - but just what I needed to lift my spirits. :)
Carriecarrieh on February 8th, 2004 03:27 pm (UTC)
I can understand what you're saying. It would really freak me out if it happened to me.

My dad got his car written off a few years ago by a breakdown truck which didn't stop at a junction. The insurers said his car was a write off, but the guy who owned the breakdown and repair company that owned the truck said that he could have repaired it for less than the write off value and so contested it. Our insurance company said most people backed down against this guy because he had influence, his was one of the biggest companies in town at the time (since gone bust). Well, my dad didn't back down, he took it to court and won and had the full backing of the insurance comapny as they'd wanted someone to do that for years. Funniest thing was, this guy did not like losing, so threw my dad up against a wall outside the court. He was promptly arrested, hauled back in front of the courts and sentenced to jail for ABH.

I'm sure if it had been me, I'd have been one of the people backing down, but the final outcome was just such poetic justice.

Really all you can do is leave it in the hands of the insurers because they should know what they're doing.
Care: hugscareleswhisper on February 7th, 2004 01:39 am (UTC)
I figured when she came back w/1,000+ she was after money only. I just hope that it works out. If she's not really hurt, it'll come back and bite her in the ass someday. It also probably doesn't help that most insurance companies ask the other party involved if they got hurt in the accident.
Sherishutterbug93 on February 8th, 2004 09:27 am (UTC)
When I first started talking with her, she seemed like a really nice girl - so I had no idea that she'd over-quote me or try to claim all these things. :( If I really thought there was a possibility that she could be hurt, I'd feel really bad for her - but there was no way she could've even gotten a sore neck from what happened! :(
irisheyes77 on February 7th, 2004 07:21 am (UTC)
I can't believe that she's claiming personal injury now! *hugs*

I'm an emotional eater, too. :(
Sherishutterbug93 on February 8th, 2004 09:31 am (UTC)
I think my problem with my emotional eating is that I eat for all of my emotions (happiness, sadness, stress...) ;) Which would probably explain why I have a constant battle with my weight. :P

And I can't believe the Acura girl too! I always try to think the best about people that I don't know - and maybe I'm a bit too naive in thinking that most people are good at heart. :(
Smithasmittenbyu on February 7th, 2004 07:41 am (UTC)
there's another blow at the having faith in people being good... what the hell... like others have said, the insurance agencies must have come across cases like this, so am sure they can deal with it better!

But what a wonderful way to make a crappy morning into a wonderful day at the office! :) you do have wonderful colleagues... now is their a job opening available? :P
Sherishutterbug93 on February 8th, 2004 09:34 am (UTC)
Exactly what I was thinking, Smitha... :( I'm hoping that my insurance company will do something about it - but I'm wondering what they can really do if she just keeps complaining about neck pain, etc. No one can really prove she's lying. :P

And I love my co-workers! :) It was so sweet of them to plan something for me! I was totally oblivious the entire time to all their planning... I had no idea - up until the time they said, "Happy Belated Birthday, Sheri." :O I nearly fell over!
I'm just a girl in the world...i_am_angieface on February 7th, 2004 07:04 pm (UTC)
That frustrates me so much when people try to get every little thing out of someone for something like a small little fender bender. Thats horrible - Im so sorry.

That was SO sweet about the Hawaiian food lunch! Mmmm!
Sherishutterbug93 on February 8th, 2004 09:36 am (UTC)
Thanks Angie. :( Seems like this Acura nightmare will never end! :(

And the Hawaiian food was so delicious! And HUGE! I took most of it home and ate it yesterday for lunch. :)

I'm sorry that you have met somebody like her. You are right, it actually is impossible that she has got an injury. Still, if she tells that she has got headaches after the accident and that it's something with the back of her neck (there is a special word but I could not find a translation) it is, at least here, usual that she gets money because it's nearly impossible to show that she is lying. I've been in two accidents and the one of them happened because the other one could not slow down the speed of his car on time - damaged was the bumper, the trunk and the "rear sheet metal" (again could not find a translation), it was loud and not only my hands were shaking after the accident but the worst was that Lauser winced at unknown noises for some time when we drove with the car. No-one was injured and I think that people should be glad when nothing is happened to them.

I'm very glad that there were persons who turned the bad day into a good day. :) And I hope that you have a very nice weekend. *Hugs*
Sherishutterbug93 on February 8th, 2004 09:43 am (UTC)
I totally agree with what you're saying! Why can't people just be thankful that no one was seriously injured? It makes me upset that she's doing this since I know how mild the tap to her bumper was and I tried to help her by calling my insurance company right away to file her claim for her car so she could get it fixed right away, etc. I could've not called her back, taken weeks to file the claim, etc. but I wanted to help her as soon as possible - and now she's claiming injury? :P

I'm sorry to hear about the accident that you had. :( Thankfully you and Lauser weren't hurt!

Hope you had a nice weekend too. *hugs*

How nice of your co-workers to have a party for you! It goes to show you how special you are! As far as Acura girl, her actions only show how devious she is! One of our friends, hit someone, the driver of the other vehicle sued, for injuries. The driver's girlfriend also sued for "loss of comfort" Her case got thrown out.
The insurance paid the driver's medical bills, but he also went to court to try and get more money, and only got a small sum that the insurance co covered, because he did not have enough proof that his injuries were TOTALLY from the accident. Funny thing was, our friend, the man that was being sued, was a Minister! The folks sueing him, kept on saying that he was lying about everything! Yes, there are slimmy folks out there! Your insurance co will handle everying and keep an eye on it. They pay people big bucks to make sure they and you don't get ripped off. If Acura girl tries to sue, she can't sue you she will sue the insurance co. You would have to be proved to be to proven totally neglegent, or under the influence or something like that. For a fender bender, I hardly think so. Also, if she was is so much distress, why did she not call an ambulance? Don't worry--Look on the bright side, maybe Acura girl will get into a bigger accident (although I do not wish bad on anyone), or a slip and fall, and go for bigger bucks!
BOOM! goes the dynamite!mslauren2930 on February 9th, 2004 09:25 am (UTC)
I was involved in a bad accident a few years back. I got rear-ended and I mean it was a nasty three car accident that resulted in someone slamming very hard into the back of my car. as a result of that, I got whiplash, but after a few days it went away. unfortunately, I've had some minor residual neck trouble ever since. the thing is, I got hit really hard. and even then, my neck didn't really sustain any serious injury that a few days of Excedrin couldn't help cure. and I'm pretty good about taking care of my neck to avoid exacerbating the problems I have with it. the woman driving the middle car sustained quite a bit more in the way of injuries. in addition to her whiplash, she had severe back problems, which required her to go to physical therapy.

the short of all that is unless you slammed into Acura girl to cause an accident similar to the one I was involved in, you're totally being scammed. let your insurance company deal with this, as I'm sure this isn't the first time they've been scammed like this.
