Why am I NOT totally surprised...
...that I have the chance to use my "ditzy" icon again? Something tells me I'm going to be using it a lot within the next few days (this lack of sleep is really beginning to affect me). ;) I really have to rush off to study, but I wanted to mention what a bonehead I am before I hit the books. ;)

At my workplace, to dial an outside line you need to dial a "9" first. So I was trying to call our home office in CA, but I must've miss-dialed, because halfway through the long distance number the phone started ringing. Well, I thought nothing of it, hung up, and tried again. No big deal, right?

Wrong! :P I finally got our home office on the phone and halfway through my conversation with them, my co-worker comes up to me in a panic - writing me a note on a piece of paper I had nearby. "Did you call the police?" was scribbled on the note.

I excused myself from the conversation I was having with the person on the phone and said, "No, why?" My co-worker went on to tell me that she just got a call from the police asking if someone called 911 and then hung up! :P My co-worker asked if it came from our number and the police repeated MY number back to her! She went back to tell the police that it was definitely a mistake and the police told her that they were going to notify the units that they already dispatched and tell them not to show up! I guess because they tracked the number back to the bank, they expected the worst and was already prepared to check it out. :P Ooops!

Oh my gosh! I felt so silly and utterly stupid. :P My co-workers and my boss thought it was the most hilarious thing, though and I don't think I'll ever be able to live this one down! ;) As I mentioned earlier, at our office you need to dial "9" to get an outside line - and all long distance numbers start by dialing a "1"... :P So it was an easy mistake to make.... right? ;) Okay, it was probably the most ditzy thing I've EVER done - but at least we all got a good laugh out of it. ;) I think I'll just blame it on the lack of sleep. ;)

You've just got to have a giggle about it and at least the first you knew about it wasn't the police turning up on the doorstep.

I know! That would've been SO embarrassing! Especially since I had absolutely no clue that I had even done anything - until my co-worker told me the police were on the phone! Yikes! ;)

Awww.... glad you are able to laugh about it. ANd I have done something like that before, but no one was ever dispatched, they just called back to see if everything was OK. I was so embarrassed.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who's ever done it. :) It was just too funny! And I'm just SO glad that the police didn't just show up - that would've been ten times more embarrassing! :P

I do stupid things like that all the time... fortunately I have only mistakenly called 911 once.

Oh my gosh, Sheri! That is too funny, but I know that you were mortified!

I was SO embarrassed - but it was too funny! :D The funniest part of it all was that I was totally clueless that I had even dialed 911! I will ALWAYS pay close attention when dialing those long distance numbers from now on! ;)

I thought I was the only person that did silly things like that! Well, at least you made everyone at work laugh! Good luck with all of your studying!

I think after I got over the initial shock of what I had done, it was the funniest thing in the world. ;) And thanks for the luck with studying, Barb! I'm certainly going to need it. :)

Don't worry about it! It's funny. In twenty years it will be even funnier! When I call to my friends long distance, sometimes I mess up the first three digits of their phone numbers, because some of them are 484 and others are 455 (close enough to be confused!). So I called the wrong number once, apologized, and then called my friend. I told her about it and we laughed. Then I called the next day, but I dialed the wrong number AGAIN (but I didn't realize). The nice lady on the other end (who sounds like my friend's step mom) said I had the wrong number, but I thought it was my friend joking with me! So I started joking with her...then I realized it wasn't anyone I knew and I was mortified...and I felt stupid that I couldn't even remember my best friend's phone number!

Oh my gosh, Rachel - your story made me smile! :) It's a good thing the lady one the other end was really nice. :) That's too funny! :)
